A full-term infant with healthy growth should be given ophthalmologic examination within first six months, in the age range of 2,5 - 3,5 years and in the preschool period. Owing to the ophthalmologic examination given to a healthy three year old child, it may be possible to preclude the lifetime eye problems that would otherwise affect him/her.
Due to the eye problems unable to be detected during babyhood, one or both eyes of our children may remain lazy; in other words, they may have to live with a sight that is below the normal limit of vision. The lazy eye is a disease that could be possible to treat in case of early diagnosis. The preschool period is of great value for the treatment. The earlier the diagnosis, the greater the success.
